ENCOURAGED BY THE NORWEGIAN FERROALLOY INDUSTRY, KOPPERAA WAS ESTABLISHED IN 2008. THE DEVELOPMENT HAS BEEN GOOD AND THROUGH A STRONG FOCUS ON THE ENVIRONMENT AND IMPROVEMENTS WE HAVE ACHIEVED FIRST CLASS RESULTS.
Kopperaa AS was started in 2008 at the request of Norwegian ferroalloy smelters.
The development has been good, and we have achieved good results throught a strong focus on the environment and continuous improvements. Our employees have over the years gained great expertise.
We are delighted to see an ever-increasing number of inquiries from near and far which help us to continue the success that we share with our customers.
We have a strong environmental focus and from the autumn of 2020 onwards, all products we deliver are exempted from labeling or prohibition regarding the new PAH regulations.
Most of our products have been PAH 'free' for many years already, therefore the regulations that came in 2020 are something we have anticipated.

Meråker municipality has a long tradition as an industrial site, and Kopperaa is established on the old smelter site where Elkem Meråker previously made Silicon products.
The factory premises are well suited for the production.
We have, among other things, several extrusion lines, mixing plants, raw material silos, raw material storage and packaging department. In addition, we have a large heating furnace. The facilities are automated, and we continuously invest in small and large improvements.
The factory is constantly being upgraded and appears modern and highly cost efficient.
PRODucts
TAP HOLE CLAYS AND PLASTICS
Our main product is tap hole clays, primarily for the ferroalloy industry in the Nordic region. These materials place great demands on the choice of material, production, and not least use. We work closely with our customers and want to actively participate in their production so that we can develop even better materials.
We divide our tap hole clays into two main groups: water-based and non-water-based.
Water-based
Water-based materials are usually based on clay. These materials are particularly suitable for intermediate closures, but we also have good experience with long-term closures.
Non-water based
We use different, carbonaceous binders in our materials, depending on the customer's requirements and specifications. The mixtures can be adjusted, and in close dialogue with our customers we also develop varieties and completely new products. For example, repair materials.
RAMMING MATERIALS
We have carbon-based ramming materials, with different binders. Kopperaa also participates in the development of such materials. They can be used in launders or other applications where a carbon based material is required.
PREFABRICATION
Kopperaa has its own refractory workshop for prefabrication of certain details. In the workshop, we have test setups for quality control of everything we produce. We can produce large and small series and we have few restrictions when it comes to the size of the details.
Ladle refining and refining plugs are a specialty where significant resources have been invested in research and development. Contact us for further information.
GROUTING AND GROUTING MATERIALS
Grouting is a very demanding craft. To give a good result, one must have training, refractory knowledge, and metallurgical competence. We have this. Many of our customers have previously grouted themselves, but the experience is that this is so challenging that the total cost and result will be best if Kopperaa does this professionally.
Kopperaa has a complete set-up at its disposal to perform grouting of furnace linings and does this regularly. This includes a selection of specialized pumps, mixing systems, manometers, and hose sets.
Either we use our own grouting material (Kopperaa Black Grout), or we use grouting materials from other manufacturers by agreement with the customer.
DRYING OUT AND SINTERING
Kopperaa has several special furnaces adapted to our needs.
The largest drying out furnace is electric, and goes up to 1100⁰C with 1 degree accuracy.
The furnace is used, among other things, for drying out prefabricated elements and preheating of production details. Internal dimensions are W 2650 x L 3550 x H 2650 mm.
Annealing of steel structures is also done as a rental service.
We also have a smaller furnace that can fire to 1300⁰C.
OTHER PRODUCTS
Kopperaa has delivered smaller batches of special materials. Among other things, a sealing compound for cracked furnace bases (cathodes) for primary aluminum potcells, and some products for the glass industry. Since our factory is flexible, we can also develop and deliver special materials to others on request.
